Secondement at Lancaster University's Physics Department

Secondement at Lancaster University's Physics Department
01 12

Paweł Żuk had an enriching secondment experience at Lancaster University's Physics Department, where he was co-advised by the esteemed Professor Peter Vaughan Elsmere McClintock - a global expert in thermodynamics, stochastic processes, and ion channels. Professor McClintock provided invaluable guidance to Paweł Żuk's research within the PD2PI project.

The secondment presented several academic opportunities related to scientific research- Paweł Zuk worked on the following research areas: electrokinetic phenomena regarding the charging of nanoporous electrodes, electrokinetic phenomena regarding the motion of ions in oscillatory electric fields reacting flow through porous media non-equilibrium thermodynamics and Brownian motion in crowded environments

Paweł was also invited to write an introductory review article on contemporary electrokinetics for Contemporary Physics (A brief introduction to contemporary electrokinetics, Contemporary Physics, 62:2, 92-104). One of the illustrations prepared by Paweł Żuk for the article was even featured on the cover of the 63rd issue of the publication.

Working with Professor McClintock, Paweł Żuk gained significant experience in preparing grant proposals for UKRI (UK Research and Innovation) related to ion channels - skills that have been highly beneficial in his own grant proposals. Additionally, Paweł Żuk participated in tutorials designed for students and faculty members at Lancaster University, focusing on scientific computing and related techniques.

Overall, the secondment provided an opportunity for Paweł Żuk to learn new skills, extend his knowledge, and expand his network of scientific connections, enhancing his research capabilities.
