Visit to the laboratory of Prof Micheål Scanlon at the University of Limerick
Bren Felisilda visited the laboratory of his PD2PI co-mentor - Prof Micheål Scanlon, at the University of Limerick (UL). During the 1st week of his visit, Bren learned more about how the UL group perform their experiments at the liquid-liquid interface using AC voltammetry and closed bipolar electrochemistry. In the 2nd week of his stay at UL, Bren focused more on gathering data to support a tangent idea regarding his project on interfacial electropolymerization using Fenton chemistry at the liquid-liquid interface. Using modified parameters, Bren used voltammetry to try developing PEDOT films, but no film was completely formed. Bren also ventured into an electrodeless version by utilizing the polarizabiliy of the interface with different ions in the organic phase. Here, he found a different promising "polarizer" in choline. During the last day, Bren taught his PhD student how to perform experiments at the liquid-liquid interface using photochemistry to hopefully use in Fenton experiments in the future.
